GUIDANCE

How the drainage take-off is calculated

Define each pipe run. Enter its true plan length, pipe outside diameter, ground levels and invert levels at both ends.
Confirm trench geometry. Enter the construction width, bedding, surround above crown and reinstatement depth required by the detail.
Review average depth. The tool averages the start and end trench depths. Stepped, irregular or deep runs should be divided into representative sections.
Calculate the material zones. Bedding is below the pipe; surround includes the pipe zone and cover above crown less the pipe displacement.
Balance excavated and imported fill. The selected reuse percentage controls suitable excavated material returned as backfill. Remaining backfill is treated as imported.
Apply bulking and allowances. Loose muck-away includes the selected spoil bulking factor; pipe and granular quantities include their stated wastage allowances.

Does excavation include manholes?

No. Pipe trench runs are calculated here. Manholes, catchpits, headwalls, thrust blocks and chambers should be measured separately unless represented as explicit ancillary BOQ items.

Why is pipe displacement removed?

The physical pipe occupies part of the surround zone and creates surplus excavated material. Its external cylindrical volume is therefore deducted from the granular surround volume.

Can the quantities be used for ordering?

They provide a structured estimate. Ordering should follow checked construction drawings, pipe manufacturer data, site conditions, procurement pack sizes and an authorised commercial review.

Is project data uploaded?

No. Calculations and exports are completed locally in the browser.
