Control principle: a valid certificate alone does not prove fitness for use. Complete appropriate field checks after transport, impact, temperature change, repair, suspect results and at the frequency required by the method, manufacturer and project quality plan.

How to manage survey instrument calibration
- Identify every controlled asset. Use a stable asset ID, model and serial number; avoid relying on case labels alone.
- Verify calibration evidence. Record the certificate, calibration date, due date, accredited provider and any stated limitations.
- Schedule field checks. Two-peg tests, collimation checks, baseline checks, tribrach and optical-plummet checks may be required between formal calibrations.
- Record failure and impact. Quarantine suspect instruments, identify affected survey work and document retest, repair and release.
- Review before mobilisation. Confirm certificate validity, recent site checks, accessories, firmware/configuration and project accuracy needs.
- Retain traceability. Keep certificates, check sheets, repair notes and evidence linked to the instrument and projects where it was used.
What determines the calibration interval?
Manufacturer recommendations, usage, environment, transport, history, project requirements and the organisation’s quality system. A fixed annual interval may not be sufficient for heavily used or impacted equipment.
What happens after a failed site check?
Stop using the instrument for affected work, confirm the test, quarantine it where necessary, assess prior survey results, arrange adjustment or calibration and document formal release.
Does COMPLIANT guarantee suitability?
No. It means the entered certificate and check dates are current and no out-of-service condition is recorded. Suitability still depends on the task, required accuracy, setup, accessories and competent use.
Where is the register stored?
It is saved locally in the browser and is not uploaded by this tool. Export controlled copies for company records.
