A practical survey QA workflow
- Define the project and tolerances. Use the approved coordinate reference system and contract-specific horizontal and vertical limits.
- Add every usable control point. Record the published coordinates, monument type, location, lifecycle state and review dates.
- Enter an independent observation. Use a suitable check method, instrument, setup and redundant observations for the required accuracy.
- Calculate QA. The register converts coordinate differences to millimetres, calculates the horizontal vector and checks both tolerances.
- Quarantine unreliable control. Do not use a failed, damaged, disturbed, overdue or unexplained point until it has been investigated and formally released.
- Approve and issue. Add the checker or approver, export the CSV and save the PDF within the project quality records.
What does PASS mean?
Both the horizontal coordinate difference and absolute level difference are within the tolerances entered for this register. It is not a substitute for the project specification or an assessment of the complete survey method.
When should a point be quarantined?
Quarantine a point when it is damaged, moved, obstructed, based on uncertain provenance, outside tolerance or awaiting investigation. Clearly communicate the restriction to the survey team.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Calculations, local saving, CSV processing and report preparation run in your browser. Clearing browser storage can remove the locally saved register, so retain issued project copies.
